Tupac To Have Oakland Street Named After Him
Tupac is being honored by the city that called him their own as he’s slated to have a street named after him in Oakland.
The Oaklandside reports that the California city’s government is moving to vote on renaming a portion of MacArthur Blvd. between Grand Ave. and Van Buren Ave. as “Tupac Shakur Way.” City Councilmember Carroll Fife brought forth the proposal.
“Tupac Shakur’s legacy will continue through his contributions in art and social outreach, through his family and fans, touching countless lives of children and elders over the years while alive and after his death, taken too young by gun violence,” the resolution reads.

The new proposal comes as “Tupac Shakur Day” is set to take place on June 16, marking the seventh time the occasion will be celebrated since its creation in 2016.
While Tupac is a Manhattan, New York native, he’s primarily known for his contributions to West Coast hip-hop and began his rap career as a roadie and background dancer for Digital Underground. He also created his most legendary album works in California, including 1991’s 2Pacalypse Now, 1993’s Strictly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z., 1995’s Me Against The World, and 1996’s All Eyez On Me.
