Taking to social media on Wednesday (May 15), R&B soul's K. Michelle shared a photo of herself wearing a Death Row Records hoodie and revealed that she has inked a deal for new music with Death Row Records.

"Call me a crazy lady but I’ve always wanted to to be apart of Death Row!" she gushed to fans. She further clarified that she is only releasing a song through historic hip-hop label, writing "y’all not my album a song😂 Calm down."

But the single could be a prelude to a longer-lasting relationship between the Memphis-bred songstress and the iconic West Coast label. 
K. Michelle was previously signed to Atlantic Records but is no longer listed as an artist under the label. She released four albums including her most recent, Kimberly: The People I Used to Know, in 2017 before parting ways with Atlantic. 

The news of her upcoming collaboration with Death Row comes just on the heels of K. Michelle announcing that she is gearing up to release her fifth album since leaving Atlantic.

Talk about perfect timing!

In early October, she announced she was releasing her fifth studio album, titled "FAB," which is shorthand for "F**k All u B**ches!," promising fans it was going to be "musically epic." 

This Monday (May 13), she updated fans about the status of the slated album, tweeting she was in the midst of finalizing the album’s release date. Based on an earlier tweet from that same day, the EP might be dropping as soon as June. 

The release date for her album hasn't been announced yet, but if that listening party she held in New York on Wednesday (May 15) is anything to judge by, the project could be right around the corner. 

In the meantime as we await the "Love 'Em All" singer's fifth album drop, it's worth noting that she's also been hitting the studio hard these days. Keeping fans looped in on her progress, she's posted a considerable amount of song snippets to Instagram, ranging to R&B jams to a rap song showing of her "cold flow."

Now, we all know K. Michelle can sang, though her rap game hasn't gotten as much shine as her vocals. If you'll recall, the 34-year-old posted a snippet of her spitting some bars, captioning the post, "Never gave a f**k, never will, I’m all up in these ninjas heads, no conditioner #soundslikeatitle2me."

The Memphis native also hasn't been shy about her roots in country music and has heavily hinted that she's considering a foray into the genre. Two weeks ago, she stole the show at a country music event in Nashville where she crashed the stage to proclaim herself the next Taylor Swift.

Before that, the Rebellious Soul singer also said she was on her way to Nashville to work on some country music in March. In the announcement on Instagram, she shared that she wanted "to do a Texas tribute to one of my fav Pimp C." 

Many Black artists have been making great strides in country music, a genre that's gone historically whitewashed and closed off to Black musicians in the mainstream. But hits like Beyoncé's "Daddy Lessons," Solange's latest EP, When I Get Home, and Lil Nas X's viral song "Old Town Road" has led a resurgence in Black artists releasing songs with a country spice to it. 

It would be interesting, to say the least, to hear what K. Michelle has in the works should she journey down that route for her latest deal, too. Not to mention, Death Row was home to many illustrious rappers like The Notorious B.I.G., Snoop Dogg, Tupac, and Warren G. From the snippet she's shared on Instagram so far, all we can say is go 'head, K! 

A month after she announced her fifth album, K. Michelle teased fans that she might be working with fellow R&B singer Faith Evans on a duet. While many took that as a sign that the song would be on the expected album, it might just be the song she's releasing with Death Row.
