Months After CNN Exit, Don Lemon Announces New Comeback Show On X
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is making his return to the news desk, but it’s going to be a little different this time.
Lemon announced on Tuesday (Jan. 9) that he’s launching a new show on X, (formerly Twitter), Politico reports.
Expressing his excitement about his comeback, Lemon shared the news of the show on X which he is under the umbrella of his media company.
“I’ve heard you … and today I am back bigger, bolder, freer!” Lemon wrote in a post on X Tuesday. “My new media company’s first project is The Don Lemon Show."It will be available to everyone, easily, whenever and wherever you want it, streaming on the platforms where the conversations are happening, And you'll find it first on X, the biggest space for free speech in the world.”
Lemon’s announcement comes after being terminated in April 202 from his role as co-host of CNN This Morning with Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins.
Lemon found himself entrenched in controversy for on-air comments he made about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley saying she wasn’t “in her prime.”
“When a woman is considered to be in her prime — in her 20s, 30s, and maybe her 40s,” he said during an episode of the show.
Posting on X, CNN shared their decision to end their working relationship with Lemon but did not disclose their reason for firing him.
“CNN and Don have parted ways. Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years,” CNN posted. ‘We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”
In a post of his own, Lemon said he was stunned by his termination and was not aware that he was being fired by the brass at CNN until his agent informed him.
CNN described Lemon’s response as completely “inaccurate” in a follow-up post on X.
“Don Lemon’s statement about this morning’s events is inaccurate,” CNN wrote.”He was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”
With the new show, Lemon said he hopes to create a safe space for unfiltered dialogue on X which is owned by Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk.
“I know now more than ever that we need a place for honest debate and discussion without the hall monitors," Lemon said.
