Ms. Lauryn Hill Says The Fugees' U.S. Tour Was Canceled Due to Low Ticket Sales
On Wednesday (Aug. 7), Ms. Lauryn Hill released a statement explaining the last-minute cancellation of her and The Fugees’ U.S reunion tour dates.
The “Ex-Factor” hitmaker said the low ticket sales were due to unnamed media outlets sensationalizing last year’s concert cancelations. She added that the “clickbait headlines” created a climate in which fans were reluctant to buy tickets for the 2024 tour, which was to have begun this Friday.
“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” Hill explained in an Instagram Post. “Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour. The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”
She continued, “Performing for my fans, is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”
“The Miseducation Anniversary Tour,” which celebrates the 25th anniversary of her chart-topping album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was set to begin on Friday (Aug. 9) in Tampa, Florida.
However, Hill & The Fugees did not cancel their UK and Europe tour dates, which begins in Manchester, England, on Oct. 12 and ends in Amsterdam on Oct. 22, with stops in London and Paris. “The audiences in the UK and Europe not only haven’t seen the Miseducation Anniversary performance yet,” Hill added. “They also haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years!”
