Another Rapper Has A Problem With Cardi B's Latest Award

"I love Cardi B just like everybody else, but Cardi B don't know s**t about the spirit of Detroit."

Cardi B has been making a headlines for a number of accomplishments, but her most recent one is not sitting right with a number of critics. It was recently announced that the Bronx rapper was awarded the Spirit of Detroit Award, and ironically, the city isn’t here for it. Detroit native Royce da 5’9”, in particular, isn’t in favor of Cardi’s new honor and unleashed a video rant on Instagram on Oct. 31 to let everyone know.

"Detroit, when y'all gon' cut it out with the goofy s**t?" he asked. "When are we going to stop being so politically correct? This is not a politically correct business. This record industry does not care about Detroit.” He continued his video by referencing his own tracks that talk about the politics in the city like “Detroit vs. Everybody” and “No Fly Zone.”

While Royce admitted that he is a fan of Cardi, he questioned why she would get an award speaking to a city that she is neither from nor connected to. "I love Cardi B just like everybody else, but Cardi B don't know s**t about the spirit of Detroit," he added. "She ain't even receive the Spirit of New York Award yet. What the f**k is we giving her an award for about the spirit of our city? I'm a Spirit of Detroit Award recipient, [but] that took the oomph out of it for me.”

He concluded by suggesting other worthy recipients. “Give Kash Doll the goddamn award Y'all gotta stop it man. Y'all gotta stop it. We must stop it. We gotta start looking out for our own artists. That's the only way we gon' move as a city,” he said.

Speaking of Kash Doll, the up-and-coming rapper also took offense to Cardi receiving the award. She previously expressed her disappointment on Twitter, branding the decision “disrespectful.” “I already got one, it’s just weird nothing against her I just thought u had to put work in the city to get it like other artist in Detroit,” Kash Doll tweeted on Oct. 30.

Cardi B may have been worthy of the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts for “Bodak Yellow,” but did she deserve the Spirit of Detroit Award?
