"Each one teach one" is a mantra we're all familiar with!

A Texas teacher from Lakeview Elementary school took it a step further earlier this week. If there was an award for educator of the year, we'd definitely nominate Leigha Bishop.

She recently went viral for her heartwarming way of inspiring a young female student who needed a boost! Apparently, she noticed one of her students rocking a braided topknot that she instantly complimented—and promised to recreate.

The catch? The student didn't believe her at first. "She didn't believe me, so she responded 'sure, Ms. Bishop' as she walked away," Leigha tells Teen Vogue. A day later, Leigha popped up with the same style!

Turns out the kindergarten teacher wasn't playing! "I went home and got to work on my hair! With my student's hair being similar to mine, I thought what better way to show her how she inspired me to feel beautiful [than] with that same braided updo?" she shared. 

Naturally, her photo garnered a lot of positive reactions—especially since she is a teacher of color.

"When students are valued for who they are as an individual beyond grades on a report card, they tend to want to be present in school and want to succeed in all aspects of life," she explained. "This small gesture of copying a hairstyle also shows that students have the ability to inspire teachers."

"Ultimately, I am a teacher who sees my students as whole people and not just bodies sitting in my classroom. I am a woman of color, and I want to pour positive light into children of all races and ethnicities," she explains.
