Usher Addresses Public Outcry Over Super Bowl Performance With Alicia Keys

“We celebrate it because of the legacy of it,” Usher said of their 2004 collaboration “My Boo.”

Just call it the "Usher effect."

It's been over a week since the "GLU" singer took center stage at the Super Bowl halftime show; still, people are continuing to raise concerns about his performance with Alicia Keys. On Monday (Feb. 19), he appeared on "The Breakfast Club” to address criticism over their duet while supporting their performance, as reported by Page Six.

The mega stars gave audiences a riveting arrangement of their 2004 collaboration "My Boo," which prompted some fans to speak out about their performance that included both artists hugging at one point. It was a nostalgic moment shared on stage, but Usher argues nothing offensive occurred.

"In no way, anything that was done there should have been viewed as bad [or] perverted in any way," he explained. "It was literally about having fun because of a song that me and Alicia made many years ago and we celebrate it because of the legacy of it."

"And no disrespect to anyone of anything like that."

Last week, the "Girl On Fire" singer's husband, Swizz Beatz, addressed the backlash in a post on Instagram where he supported her performance with Usher.

"Y’all talking about the wrong damn thing !!! y’all don’t see that amazing dress covering the entire stadium," the super producer –who's been married to Keys since 2010– wrote.

"Tonight’s performance was nothing but amazing with 2 amazing Giants ! Congrats @usher and my love @aliciakeys that song is a classic."

He continued, "We don’t do negative vibes on this side we make history."
