Four LSU Football Players in the Clear So Far After Meeting With Police

Tigers quarterback Jordan Jefferson is one of four players listed as 'persons of interest' in a bar fight.

For days now we’ve waited to see what the fallout would be from a bar fight that allegedly involved four LSU football players, including starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson.

Four people suffered injuries in the fight and the LSU players were quickly identified as people of interest.

The four players were going to meet with the Baton Rouge police. Then they were advised legally to wait. Finally, all four players met separately with the Baton Rouge police on Tuesday.

According to a Associated Press story, things went well for the foursome. They were interviewed and apparently answered all questions.

“They did not invoke the fifth amendment. They gave their side of the story,” Baton Rouge police chief Dewayne White said to AP. “They provided additional witnesses they knew were there that night, and those were witnesses we intend to run down and get their statement.”

It doesn’t mean the players are in the clear, though. Police are still searching for the culprits in the bar fight and seem intent on making an arrest.

All eyes have been on Jefferson in particular because of what the senior quarterback means to the success of the fourth-ranked Tigers this season. LSU takes on No. 3 Oregon in the season opener Sept. 3 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Tx.

Jefferson will be a three-year starter for the Tigers this season, and many believe he can lead them to the BCS national title this year.
