Kehlani Recently Gave a Powerful Speech About Mental Illness
Kehlani’s had a really up-and-down year in 2016.
Things seem to be going good for her now, but back in March, surrounding rumors that she had cheated on boyfriend Kyrie Irving with singer PARTYNEXTDOOR, the Oakland songstress nearly took her own life.
After being hospitalized for the frightening event, Kehlani apparently did some soul searching, and during a recent stop on her tour, decided to let everyone know her take on mental illness.
"[Suicide] is something that so many young people are dealing with," she told the audience. "And so many young people slip under the rug. Please don't try it. Don't do it." She continued by reflecting on her own suicide attempt, "It wasn't a first time thing, and that's not OK… for anyone. Not for the people around you, not for the people that love you, not the people that care about you."
March’s attempted suicide caused a stir as Kehlani Instagramed about the occurrence after it happened while in the hospital. She would post a pic of her laying in a bed with an IV in her arm and a caption in-part reading, “Everyone is hurt and everyone is in a place of misunderstanding, but as of today I had no single wish to see tomorrow. But God saved me for a reason, and for that I must be grateful cuz I’m not in heaven right now for a reason.”
