Common has a lot on his mind, and rightfully so.

The rapper today (September 22) released his new music video for “Black America Again,” his powerful collaboration with Stevie Wonder.

The visuals open up with the footage of Alton Sterling’s death and dives straight into the now ever-present topics of Black people losing their lives at the hands of police, as well as touching on inequality, education and mass incarceration.

"Black children, they childhood stole from them, robbed of our names and our language, stole again," Common passionately raps. "I know that Black lives matter and they matter to us, these are the things we gotta discuss. The new plantation, mass incarceration, instead of educate, they'd rather convict the kids." 

The music video shines a light on the pain that the Black community has consistently endured in regards to the #BlackLivesMatter movement and police brutality, with the camera focusing in on several different people shedding silent tears and reflecting on the nation’s ongoing racial tension and tragic current events. 

The song also features jazz singer Esperanza Spalding playing bass, as well as ad-libs from Chuck D and MC Lyte, with production by Karriem Riggins and Robert Glasper.
