Kim Kardashian Now Legally Single Amid Ongoing Divorce From Kanye West, Judge Rules
Kim Kardashian is now a single woman, renouncing her seven-year marriage with Kanye West.
As reported by The Huffington Post, Kardashian, once fully addressed as Kim Kardashian West, was granted her request after a judge reverted her marital status to single.
The Kardashian-West divorce has been a public affair.
“I very much desire to be divorced,” Kardashian said in a court document, The Associated Press reported. “I have asked Kanye to keep our divorce private, but he has not done so.”
Kardashian, who shares four children with the Yeezy creator and is still technically married to West, has filed for divorce on February 19, 2021.
She requested Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Steve Cochran put through the divorce on December 10, 2021, according to TMZ.
In the video conference, Kardashian was present while Kanye was noticeably absent, with his fourth attorney, Samantha Spector, representing him.
Kanye had his previous lawyer Chris Melcher fired before the proceedings, HuffPost reported.
The reality TV star stated that Kanye has repeatedly leaked private messages between her estranged husband and her new boyfriend, Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson.
Kanye's legal team, however, once denied Kardashian's accusations, saying there was no evidence that the rapper leaked the texts, according to TMZ.
Despite the intense showdown, Kanye told his lawyers on Tuesday to “expedite the dissolution of my marriage to Kim so I can put my entire attention into our beautiful children,” according to Hollywood Unlocked.
“Divorce is difficult enough on our children and Kanye’s obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all,” Kardashian stated on Instagram.
“From the beginning I have wanted nothing but a healthy and supportive co-parenting relationship because it is what is best for our children and it saddens me that Kanye continues to make it impossible every step of the way,” she continued. “I wish to handle all matters regarding our children privately and hopefully he can finally respond to the third attorney he has had in the last year to resolve any issues amicably.”
