Protesters Rally Outside Fulton County Courthouse, Demanding End to YSL RICO Trial

The rapper's supporters gathered to protest delays in the YSL trial, raising concerns about justice, fairness, and the impact on artistic expression.

Young Thug supporters assembled outside the Fulton County Courthouse in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday (Oct. 25), calling for an end to the prolonged YSL RICO trial. The case began in November 2023 and has experienced a series of interruptions and delays, raising concerns among protestors about its length, cost, and broader implications for justice and artistic expression.

The trial has been marked by significant turmoil, including the stabbing of one defendant in jail, a change in judges, and the arrest of Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, who was detained for withholding information about a secret meeting between prosecutors, the judge, and a key witness. The potential for a mistrial looms, as Judge Paige Reese Whitaker canceled court last  Thursday (Oct. 24) without explanation, pausing proceedings until Monday (Oct. 28).

Among the roughly 20 protestors gathered were locals and supporters nationwide. The organizer, Ten Wilkerson, who traveled from Chicago, said she’s been closely following the case since December and felt compelled to join the demonstration to call for its resolution. She and others emphasized that their protest wasn’t about supporting Young Thug personally but defending the legal system’s fairness and integrity.

“My message is, at what point do we say this is unfair? What point does the justice system say we got it wrong? We either need to rethink what we're doing and do the mistrial or dismiss the trial - and when I say try again, I don't mean try again with the case," Wilkerson said, according to Fox 5 Atlanta

With the judge now deliberating possible plea deals and mistrial motions, the YSL RICO trial remains in limbo, as does the sense of justice that protestors say they are fighting to preserve.

The “Relationship” hitmaker was arrested on May 9, 2022, in Buckhead along with 27 other suspected gang members as part of a 56-count indictment.
