Fall Hair Color And Tips To Take You Through Winter
As the seasons change, so can your hairstyle and color, and fall is the perfect time to deepen your shade with warm, rich tones reflecting the changing leaves. “I’m seeing lots of short and flirty haircuts, pretty pixies, beautiful bobs, bold bangs, feathered and layered hair, daring mullets, chic shags, and effortless/messy looks with natural long tresses,” said celebrity hairstylist and Maui Moisture Brand Ambassador Alexander Armand. “The girls are playing with textures, color, and length reminiscent of the 1990s, and I’m loving the fun and freeness of it!”
As far as colors to consider, Armand predicts there will be richer hues like amber, caramel, auburn, and more potent blonde and brunette hues. “It’s giving next-level blonde and brunette, their more exotic cousins with, an edge,” she said.
Use the below as your inspo!
AMBER
Hair type 3 and 4 ladies should maintain their regular hair regimens and up the ante on moisturization because sealing in hydration is critical for the fall and winter months. Fluffed-out curls (like the ones above) can be achieved absent heat with stylers such as Maui Moisture Hair Styling Frizz-Free + Shea Butter leave-in conditioning mist and heatless curling rollers, said Armand.
Skipping heat minimizes damage, especially when coloring your hair. Another great product to consider is the TGIN Miracle RepaiRx protective leave-in conditioner.
AUBURN
A bomb blow-out is possible if product is not applied too heavily and there is lightweight moisture so that you don't burn your hair with heat application. One of my go-to products to use when blow drying, straightening, and flat ironing hair is Maui Moisture Nourish & Moisture + Coconut Milk Weightless Oil Mist. It has anti-humectant properties (blocks moisture from the environment to prevent frizzing) and defrizzes and moisturizes tresses for silk presses, curling, and heat manipulation," said Armand.
You can finish your look with Fekkai Brilliant Gloss Glass Hair Serum, which adds weightless shine and reduces frizzing. For general hair maintenance, add a deep conditioner like Mielle Babassu Oil & Mint Deep Conditioner to your hair care regimen to protect your tresses, especially if you use heat tools.
Dark Golden Blond
Dark blonde is a great way to lighten and still add depth to highlighted or balayage tresses. This color compliments most skin tones and is easier to achieve on darker hair without requiring hours at a salon stripping away your natural color. However, the darker your hair, the more damaging it can be to lighten it. Try using a protein-rich hair mask like Fekkai's Super Strength + Repair Mask, which can help to repair your hair and make it stronger. Or Pattern's treatment mask for curly, coily, and tight textures.
Caramel
This beautiful color is rich and warm and can range from light to dark. Enjoy the sun-kissed tone of caramel from fall into winter, and talk to your stylist about adding lighter pieces to your ends and root shadowing for a more natural look. The drawback of this color is that it can become brassy. If you notice yellowish tones, use a blue shampoo like John Frieda's Blue Crush, and for brassy tones, a purple shampoo like Amika Bust Your Brass.
Brunette
"I firmly believe that the fall and winter months are a restorative season for haircare. So I encourage everyone, irrespective of hair texture, to deep condition during this time and develop a schedule that caters to your hair type," said Armand. However, it is done occasionally, depending on hair type and wash schedule. As an example, Armand states that low porosity hair can be conditioned more frequently with a weekly or biweekly schedule versus finer, more porous hair. Try Pattern's treatment mask for curly, coily, and tight textures.
