Lupita Nyong'o is unstoppable. The actress, who celebrated her birthday on Saturday and took home an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress on Sunday, also stars in the number one movie at the box office this weekend.
Non-Stop, headlined by Liam Neeson as an air marshal trapped on a plane with a hijacker using text messaging as his weapon of choice, earned $30 million for a first place finish. The film, in which Nyong'o plays a stewardess trapped on the doomed aircraft, beat the religiously-themed Son of God, which came in second place with $26.5 million.
Further down the chart, The Lego Movie came in third place, adding another $21 million for a domestic total of $209 million. The animated film, voiced by Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell and Morgan Freeman, is one of the most critically-lauded films of the year thus far.
Rounding out the top five were George Clooney‘s star-studded film The Monuments Men and Kevin Costner‘s new thriller 3 Days to Kill, bringing in $5 million and $4.9 million, respectively.
Next week, 300: Rise of an Empire goes up against Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel.
