Detroit Pistons Show Interest In J. Cole Joining Squad
Just days after J. Cole spoke on his intentions of possibly entering the league, an NBA team has stepped forward to express interest in him.
On Monday (August 3), the Detroit Pistons reached out to Cole via Twitter and extended him an invitation to try out for their team, tweeting, “[J. Cole], we see you out here. You said they only got 12 slots on the Pistons. Hit us for that tryout. This is for all the dreamers.”
J. Cole hasn’t publicly responded to the Piston’s offer at the time of this reporting, but it seems things are aligning for him. Fans have been speculating that the rapper has been angling for a shot at the NBA since he published an essay titled “The Audacity,” in The Players Tribune where he expressed a desire to pursue his childhood dream on July 20.
Then, ten days later, he released a commercial for a new signature sneaker with PUMA, called “The Dreamer,” which further fueled the speculation. In the 30-second spot, Cole is shown going through an intense basketball workout in a dimly lit gym.
“You can't be serious,” says the voiceover track over the commercial. "I know you ain't about to try to do what I think you're trying to do. ‘Cause that would be crazy. And you ain't crazy, is you? I mean, what's the odds? I know you've got more sense than that young blood. Hold up, I think the homie is really trying to do it.”
Most recently, Master P spoke with TMZ where he revealed that he recently had a long conversation with Dreamville head about his ambitions. The No Limit Records mogul shared that Cole parsed his thoughts on what steps he should take, to which P replied, “I said, to get one of these NBA jerseys, it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be a lot of hate, it's gonna be a lot of people not believing in you. But, you know, he got the right size.”
