Run That Back: This Week in Music, Featuring Rae Sremmurd, PARTYNEXTDOOR and More
A few new releases in the world of music surfaced this past week.
Rae Sremmurd dropped their highly anticipated Sremmlife 2 album today (August 12). The duo have been making their press rounds lately as the project is already getting high praise. Listen to it here.
PARTYNEXTDOOR released his latest album P3 today. Hear it here.
Curren$y, 2 Chainz, De La Soul and more all released new music this week. Check out some of our staff favorites below.
Vic Mensa feat. Joey Purp - "773"
I just recently visited Chicago for the first time — ironically with Vic Mensa — so this song is speaking to me right now. Vic details his chapters of Chicago life and the result is both action packed and poignant. I'm on board. - Kathy Iandoli
Christina Aguilera feat. Nile Rodgers - "Telepathy"
There isn't anything Nile Rodgers doesn't put his hands on that doesn't immediately turn into magic – just check out Sister Sledge's "Lost in Music (1984 Remix)," Diana Ross's Diana album, or Daft Punk's "Get Lucky." Though "Telepathy" is retro on purpose since it's part of Netflix's Get Down series, it doesn't take away from how brilliant it is. For one, Christina isn't piercing our ears with screeching vocal runs, which is a musical blue moon. It also teeters on the disco line but then jumps into a smoother bout of R&B. And if you sit to enjoy anything, sit with the amazing bass line because Nile is bass gold. - Jon Reyes
Goldie The Gasman feat. Future - "We On 'Em"
Future is keeping that newly minted "King of Collabs" title from getting dusty, linking up with Goldie the Gasman on the wavy "We on 'Em.'" This latest ode to lean, libation and ladies will keep your weekend lit. - Jacob Rohn
Curren$y feat. Wiz Khalifa - "You In Mind"
Spitta's put out what seems like a million mixtapes this year. His latest single drop however is most likely off his long-awaited forthcoming #2009 tape with Wiz Khalifa. "You in Mind" is that trippy, smoked-out Andretti Curren$y fans have become accustomed to. If this track's any indication, #2009 is going to a banger. - Paul Meara
PARTYNEXTDOOR - "Don't Know How"
PARTYNEXTDOOR’s P3 has finally arrived. The 16-track album features one sole feature from Drake and the rest is PND in all his forward-thinking R&B glory. The project marks the third installment of his self-titled series, and may be his strongest collection of music yet. Taking to Twitter to share that he was anxious about the release, the OVO crooner shared that he feels he “only talks in songs,” and that on P3, he has a lot to say. Judging from my first initial run-through's of the project, PND’s latest offering is going to be a staple for soundtracking late summer vibes without a doubt. Check out “Don’t Know How” to get a feel for what PARTYNEXTDOOR is all about, and from there, it's only natural if you get lost in the rest of his new album. - KC Orcutt
