See Why This Sign in a Women's Hooters Bathroom Is Going Viral

Guess the bartenders and patrons have a super special relationship.

When thinking about locales that have women’s best interests in mind, Hooters is not exactly at the top of the list. The chain is, after all, known for putting ladies in tiny shorts while serving sub-par wings. But Hooters South Africa is shaking things up.

A Facebook post that’s going viral shows that the restaurant (or at least one of its South African branches) has implemented a new tool for women who feel threatened at the restaurant. According to a sign in the women’s restroom, ladies who feel unsafe are encouraged to go to the bartender and order an “angel shot.” It’s code — order the shot neat and the bartender will walk you to your car, order it with ice and they’ll call you a Lyft or an Uber, order it with lime and they’ll call the police.

This policy is brilliant and we hope it spreads to more restaurants. If a woman is put in an unsafe situation, even in public, it can be hard to get out of it without exacerbating things — angry men don’t exactly calm down when you try to extricate yourself from them. The angel shot is a discreet way for women to find safety (presuming the Uber driver isn’t dangerous either. The world is terrible!).

Bravo to Hooters! Although we will say that we feel really, really bad for any woman who has to meet a Tinder date there.
