Missy Elliott marked Missy Elliott Day with a special surprise for supporters in her hometown of Portsmouth, VA.
Standing alongside her mother, Patricia Elliott, and dozens of other people at the Melvin O. Marriner Family Life Center, the Grammy Award-winner presented a $50,000 check to the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority (PRHA) to assist families behind on their rent and facing eviction as a result.
PRHA Executive Director Alisa Winston says that the funding would go to helping 26 families in the Portsmouth area.
A year ago, Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared Oct. 17 “Missy Elliott Day” months after council members voted unanimously to rename McLean Street “Missy Elliott Boulevard.”
