MC Lyte Praises Nicki Minaj
Instead of hating on the newbies in the game, MC Lyte actually gave props to someone who's been taking the scene by storm. When Nicki Minaj's name came up during her guest lecture at Pennsylvania's Millersville University this week, MC Lyte only had positive things to say about the Young Money rapper.
"She is a smart business woman. Creatively she is a mesh of sweet tea of MC Lyte, of Salt N Pepa, of Eve, of Kim, of Foxy, of everyone that has existed before," MC Lyte says. "And we all have followed the steps of such great female MCs. There's no way that I can say that I wasn't influenced by Salt N Pepa.”
She also pointed out that contrary to what others say, Minaj does respect those that have paved her away and allowed her to rise as far as she's come.
"She gives homage. She's says she's been influenced by the female MCs but she's also been influenced by a certain genre of music that many of us love but never had the guts to put it as a part of our music and that's pop culture.”
Minaj later took the moment to pay her respects once again by tweeting, "@MClyte thanks for the kind words sis."
