Electric Slide, You're Done: Find Out the New Most Requested Song at Weddings
FiveThirtyEight, the website committed to analyzing and explaining poll analysis, politics, economics, and sports, has turned its sights to music, sifting through the data to find out what the most popular songs are played by wedding DJs across the country.
The website set out to configure the "ultimate wedding playlist", and received more than 100 submissions with more than 3,000 songs. From the data, it appears that tastes have shifted since the "Electric Slide" and the "Macarena" were ubiquitious.
These days, Outkast's hit "Hey Ya!" is the most requested song at weddings. Second place goes to the classic "I Wana Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston, while "Uptown Funk", the Isley Brother's "Shout", and Beyoncé's "Crazy In Love" rounding out the top 5.
Other artists that appear early and often in the playlist are Michael Jackson - who is the most popular artist overall thanks to both his solo career and his career in the Jackson 5, Pharrell, and R. Kelly.
What would make it into your top five?
