Kamala Harris Tested For COVID-19 After ‘Close Contact’ With Positive Staffer
Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly tested negative for COVID-19 after the White House says she had “close contact” with a staff member who has tested positive for coronavirus.
The White House announced in a statement on Wednesday (December 22) that the individual “who staffed the Vice President throughout the day Tuesday” received a positive test result after testing negative on Monday and every day last week, according to WAVY. The unidentified staff member is fully vaccinated, has received their booster shot and did not experience symptoms.
The White House says VP Harris is tested regularly and will receive another test on Friday and Monday, per guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“As CDC guidance does not require fully vaccinated people to quarantine after an exposure, the Vice President will continue with her daily schedule,” the statement reads. “This evening, she will depart Joint Base Andrews for Los Angeles where she and the Second Gentleman will remain through the New Year.”
The news comes as the first pill to treat COVID-19 was authorized by U.S. health regulators. The Pfizer drug will be available to take at home to treat the worst effects of the virus.
