[Watch] Here Are the Best Reactions to Misty Copeland's New Barbie
A Barbie doll worthy of looking up to is finally here.
After making history last year in becoming the first African-American woman to be named principal dancer at the prestigious American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland has reached another milestone — having her very own Barbie doll. And social media couldn't have been any prouder of the honor, clapping for the pioneering dancer continuing to inspire young girls.
Copeland, 33, revealed the doll based on her likeness on Good Morning America on Monday and social lit up in approval.
"I was hands-on with making sure that she really looked like a dancer and looked like me. She has muscles and calves and thighs and a bust... and that was important to me," Copeland told Robin Roberts on GMA. "We're celebrating that. It's beauty and also you could be a ballerina and look like this."
In a prior press release, Copeland also said: "I always dreamed of becoming an ABT ballerina and through Barbie I was able to play out those dreams early on. It's an honor to be able to inspire the next generation of kids with my very own Barbie doll."
Inspiring, indeed. Watch the reveal here.
The doll's fashions came from the same Firebird costume that Copeland rocked from her ABT principal role, one that she'll reprise later this month during the company's spring session at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.
We bet this doll will be a best seller and soon.
