Method Man Opens Up About His Battle with Depression

In a candid discussion with Fat Joe, the Wu-Tang Clan rapper reflects on his struggles with depression.

Method Man opened up about his struggles with mental health in a candid discussion with Fat Joe.

During the latest episode of Fat Joe's new Starz series, “Fat Joe Talks,” the former Wu-Tang Clan rapper shared that he experiences bouts of depression. Their conversation, which began with the importance of staying connected with people, took a personal turn when Method Man reflected on his mental health journey.

“The point I'm trying to make is every now and then when you get a thought like, ‘Damn, I wonder what this person's doing,’ act on it,” said Method Man. “Call them, see how they doing, or find some way to get in contact with them. It never hurts. You have no idea how much that could mean to them."

The 53-year-old added that depression never really goes away. “You have, like I said, I have bouts with it and things,” he said.

He also shared a moment when a heartfelt text from a friend lifted his spirits, reinforcing his message about the importance of checking in on others who may be going through tough times. "And Dave saw that, and he just sent me a text message, a beautiful text message… and it spoke to me, big time,” Method Man continued. “And all I could put was, ‘All of this,’ with a heart emoji. I don’t even get heart emojis, son, but yeah.” Watch the full conversation below:

In other news, Method Man recently spoke on the “Tamron Hall Show” about valuing respect over his image as a sex symbol, emphasizing what truly matters to him. “I love the admiration. I love it. Does it get awkward at times? Absolutely. Sometimes, you just want to blend in with everybody else, and I’m that type of person.”

“You can never blend in,” Hall interrupted. Method Man continued, “Sometimes I do. Again, I can appreciate the admiration. Then there’s the only things where it’s like ‘Finest Man Alive.’ I mean, you can put as much gas on the fire as you want, but honestly, I believe all of us are beautiful and sexy in our own way, so let’s all be sexy together.”
