In his earlier days, before becoming an Emmy Award-winning actor, Donald Glover played the role of Troy Barnes in the now ended hit sitcom Community. Though the cast was pretty diverse, that didn't mean the then young actor was exempt from the perils of racism.

In fact, the show's creator, Dan Harmon, shared an instance where one of the senior cast members made some racially insensitive remarks that offended the Atlanta star.

In an interview with the New Yorker, Harmon explained that legendary comedian and actor Chevy Chase, who played Pierce Hawthorne on the show, would make racist remarks in an attempt to throw Glover off his game while filming.

"Chevy [Chase] was the first to realize how immensely gifted Donald was, and the way he expressed his jealousy was to try to throw Donald off," he said. "I remember apologizing to Donald after a particularly rough night of Chevy's non-P.C. verbiage, and Donald said, 'I don't even worry about it.'"

Echoing Harmon's sentiments, Glover added that while he pitied Chase for not being able to accept that other talent was being recognized but his own, he still believes there's a "human in there."

"I just saw Chevy as fighting time — a true artist has to be O.K. with his reign being over," he said. "I can't help him if he's thrashing in the water. But I know there's a human in there somewhere — he's almost too human."

In response to Glover's comments, Chase told the publication he was "saddened to hear" that the award-winning actor "perceived me in that light."
