Minions Sets Record at the Box Office
America hearts Minions. The animated family film took the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend with a $115.2 million debut, breaking records in its path. Minions, featuring the voices of Sandra Bullock and John Hamm, is the second-biggest opening ever for an animated film, just shy of Shrek the Third with $122.5 million.
Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, is still holding strong in its fifth weekend with a second place finish and $18.1 million gross, for a domestic total of $590.7 million so far.
Third place goes to Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out, which made an additional $17.1 million for a total of $283.6 million. Rounding out the top five were Terminator: Genisys and horror film The Gallows, earning $13.7 million and $10 million, respectively.
Next week, Marvel's Ant-Man and Trainwreck will look to knock a couple of titles out of the top five.
