Erykah Badu Says "Window Seat" Visual Is Not For Shock Value

As Erykah Badu's "Window Seat" video continues to spark discussion, the clip's inspiration, Brooklyn-based dance punk group Matt and Kim, are cosigning Badu's controversial vid.

The duo pulled a similar stunt last year in their “Lessons Learned” clip by sprinting through NYC’s Times Square naked. Speaking with Badu before she shot the visual, Matt and Kim were convinced the singer was stripping for more than shock value.

I think she did the video in the right spirit that we talked about and it's more than just shock value," Matt Johnson, one half of the duo, explained to MTV.com. "There was a bigger idea for the whole thing.

As previously reported, Badu told BET.com that "Window Seat" was inspired by Matt and Kim's "Lessons Learned." “I was inspired by a video by a group called Matt and Kim," she explained. "Matt and Kim did the same thing in Times Square in 2009 just last year. It was such an inspiring act of freedom that I wanted to be a part of that, wanted to feel that, wanted to experience that. It was as personal for me as it was important to inspire other people to do this shedding in their own way.”
