BET Awards 2024: Usher Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award

Music legends and today's hottest stars unite to celebrate Usher's illustrious career with a spectacular tribute performance.

Well deserved! Usher was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday (June 30).

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis started by presenting the honor to the 45-year-old at the Peacock Theater following a tribute video of Usher's three-decade journey celebrating his impact as a singer, songwriter, and dancer. The clip featured words from Toni Braxton, L.A. Reid, Janelle Monáe, Jermaine Dupri, Jennifer Hudson, Kevin Hart, and more.

Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Chlöe, Tinashe, Teyana Taylor, Victoria Monet, Latto, and more graced the stage with a tribute. They performed some of Usher's biggest hits like "You Don't Have To Call," "You Make Me Wanna," "Good Good," "There Goes My Baby," "Good Kisser," "Nice & Slow," "Bad Girl," "Yeah!" and more.

After the performance, L.A. Reid and Babyface joined Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on stage to present the award. "Getting here has definitely not been easy but it has been worth it," Usher began his speech. "I didn't write anything because I wanted this exact moment to be what it was -- present, in this moment, how I am feeling and the appreciation that I have for each and every person that had anything to do with this moment tonight as well as the 30 plus year career that I celebrate. This Lifetime Achievement Award -- I don't know, man. Is it too early for me to receive it, cause I'm still running and gunning. I still love this s**t like I did when I eight-years-old."

The prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, established in 2001 with the first annual ceremony, honors industry GOATS who have significantly shaped culture through their extensive careers. The eight-time Grammy nominee joins a lineup of history-making performers, including Whitney Houston, Prince, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, and Busta Rhymes, who took home the title last year.
