N.E.R.D. Debuts New Music From SpongeBob Squarepants
N.E.R.D. debuted two new songs from the SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water soundtrack earlier today (Jan. 27). The tracks, “Sandy Squirrel” and “Patrick Star,” are named after characters in the kid-friendly flick, hitting theaters next month.
Instrumentally, the music is akin to N.E.R.D.’s signature sounds, with remnants of Pharell’s “Happy” single from Despicable Me 2. Skateboard P’s vocals lead the SpongeBob tracks.
It was announced last year that Pharrell would join forces with his N.E.R.D. family, Chad Hugo and Shae Haley, for three songs on the soundtrack. The first, “Squeeze Me,” debuted in December.
As one of SpongeBob’s “biggest fans” Haley said that he couldn’t wait for the songs to be released. “It was a complete honor to be a part of this project. SpongeBob and N.E.R.D. share the same belief that imagination is the key to everything.”
SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water opens Feb. 6. An EP of the available soundtrack songs is on iTunes now.
