Ryan Reynolds on Green Lantern : “I Did It Without Adult Diapers”
Fanboys, girls and superhero fans everywhere might be excited about seeing the Green Lantern fly through space, but that excitement didn’t extend to the movie’s star Ryan Reynolds at first.
Reynolds, who stars as Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern in the film, has a serious fear of flying, and hanging from wires to shoot Green Lantern’s special effect flying scenes was no exception. But the 34-year-old new superhero realized he had to man up pretty quickly to pull off the role.
“I was initiated early. On the third day [of shooting] they fired me 200 feet in the air at 60 feet per second on wires, and that got me over it real quick. And I did it without adult diapers or anything, I just did it,” Reynolds told BET.com.
And soon after, Reynolds admitted he loved his stunts in Green Lantern, which also stars Angela Bassett and the voice of Michael Clarke Duncan as the character Kilowog, a little too much.
“By the end I was getting a little cocky with it,” he continues. “I kept trying to find someway for them to transport me back to my hotel each day ... on the wire.”
Green Lantern opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, June 17.
