Beyoncé, Oprah Make Forbes' List of Powerful Women
Forbes annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Women has just been released and politicians aren't the only ones wielding influence over the public. This year's list contains a number of celebs and entertainers who have proven that what they say and do carries some mighty effect.
Michelle Obama is spotlighted as the eighth most powerful women for using her status as first lady of the United States to bring attention to childhood obesity, health, and bringing support and awareness to low-income students wishing to pursue higher education. Media mogul Oprah Winfrey, who landed the 14th spot on the list, is reportedly worth $3 billion thanks to her OWN network finally yielding profits, her investments in various television shows produced by her Harpo production company, and her commitment to giving back to communities near and far.
Beyoncé, who came in at number 17 on the list, is another face we're not surprised to see on this list. The singer is not only a fierce musician who routinely sells out shows and world tours, but she still finds time to release secret albums and being an activist for women's empowerment.
Other notable names included former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (number 6), Latina actress Sofia Vergara (number 32), Vogue's Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour (number 39), Shakira (number 58), and Lady Gaga (number 67). The most powerful woman in the world, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, has topped the list for nine of the past 10 years.
