Chris Rock’s Summer Comedy Tour Ticket Sales Rise After Will Smith Slap
Comedian Chris Rock announced late-February that he would be going on his Ego Death World Tour during summer 2022 and thanks to on-air drama between him and Will Smith, his ticket sales have seen a dramatic spike.
Rock was slapped by the Oscar-winning actor at the 94th Academy Awards after he made a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, before presenting the “Best Documentary” award.
According to Variety, TickPick, a secondary ticket purchasing website, reported that they have sold more tickets for the comedian's show following the incident on Sunday (Mar. 27) than they had all of Feb. 2022.
“We sold more tickets to see Chris Rock overnight than we did in the past month combined,” the company’s official Twitter page wrote.
TickPick also notes that the surge of ticket prices have also risen from a minimum of $46 per ticket on Mar. 18 to now a minimum of $341.
“Lauded by peers and critics alike, Chris Rock is one of our generation’s strongest comedic voices,” Live Nation said in a statement. “With a career spanning more than three decades, Rock has enjoyed ongoing success in both film and television as a comedian, actor, writer, producer and director.”
Rock will perform six shows at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre from March 30 through April 1 before officially kicking off his Ego Death World Tour. The award-winning comedian currently has 38 dates scheduled and is slated to hit major cities including New York, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Oakland, Seattle, and Toronto.
He will also travel internationally to Australia and New Zealand in August before his final tour date at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theater on Nov. 17.
Elsewhere on the tour, he will perform alongside comedian Kevin Hart, for their “Rock Hart Only Headliners Allowed” tour, for a few selected dates this summer at locations in New York and New Jersey.
Chris Rock’s Ego Death World Tour tickets are now available for purchase.
