Donald Trump Defends Call to Ban Muslims From America
Presidential candidate Donald Trump continued to defend his call to ban Muslim immigrants from entering the country citing a Pew Center research poll that he claimed showed "a great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population."
During an interview with Joe Scarborough of MSNBC's Morning Joe, Trump said that there were parts of the world where police were afraid to go because of recent attacks such as in Paris, where 130 people were killed.
"They have sections in Paris that are radicalized where the police refuse to go there," said Trump. "They’re petrified. The police refuse to go in there. We have places in London and other places that are so radicalized that the police are afraid for their own lives.”
While speaking to CNN's Chris Cuomo, he said, "You're going to have many more World Trade Centers if you don't solve it — many, many more and probably beyond the World Trade Center."
Trump's statement immediately set off a wave of outrage Monday from many who could not believe that someone who wants to run this country one day would think to halt immigration for a whole group of people. It's odd that Trump does not see how the ban may violate the Constitution.
"Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life," Trump said in his original statement Monday.
Additionally, mass shootings in America are committed by people of all races and religious affiliations. Earlier this year, Dylann Roof, who was a "devout Christian," shot and killed nine Black people at a Charleston church. In November, there was a shooting at a Planned Parenthood by a white man who killed three people and wounded nine others, who was found to have crosses in the front of his home and also identified as Christian.
Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton responded to Trump's comments on Twitter Tuesday.
