The official trailer to the highly anticipated slave drama The Birth of Nation is finally here and it's pretty gripping, to say the least. Released by Fox Searchlight Pictures, the promotional clip shows the film's lead actor, writer, director and producer, Nate Parker, lead a revolt against tyranny.

The Birth of a Nation, set against the antebellum South, focuses on the life of Nat Turner, a literate slave and preacher. His owner, Samuel Turner, struggling financially, accepts an offer to use Nat's preaching to restrain unruly slaves, but once he notices several unfair and inhumane actions taken against both himself and his fellow slaves, Nat takes matters into his own hands, leading an uprising that he hopes will lead his people to freedom.

In addition to Nate Parker, the film also stars the likes of Aunjanue Ellis, Gabrielle Union and Aja Maomi King. It hits theaters this coming October.
