Jonathan Majors's Lawyer Says It’s ‘Standard’ After Judge Grants Alleged Victim Full Temporary Order of Protection
Jonathan Majors’ lawyer continues to maintain the Primetime Emmy-nominated actor’s innocence after a judge recently granted the alleged victim a limited temporary order of protection.
The press secretary for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, Doug Cohen, confirmed the latest development on Thursday, April 27, during a press conference. The arrangement still "allows the subject of the order of protection to maintain contact with you. However, the subject cannot abuse, harass or threaten you," according to the NYPD.
Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, reacted to the decision stating that "This is standard in cases such as this,” and revealed that the actor’s legal team “consented” to the decision because the Lovecraft Country breakout star “wants nothing to do with the woman who assaulted him."
In a letter obtained by PEOPLE, Chaudhry claimed they had provided “ample evidence, including witness statements” to the District Attorney that would clear the 33-year-old who is facing multiple misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment by the Manhattan D.A following his March 25th arrest.
“In fact, we recently provided a forensic medical opinion from a Board Certified Emergency Medicine Doctor and Trauma Specialist who has examined the photos and videos of the woman and concludes, without hesitation, that the woman did not have any injuries at the nightclub and the injuries she later sustained did not come from Mr. Majors (and could not have come from the way the woman described),” the lawyer continued.
Chaudhry reportedly filed video evidence earlier this month showing the woman–yet to be identified–seemingly unharmed and at a nightclub, hours after she and Majors had parted ways. The attorney added, "It is disturbing that even when presented with this incontrovertible evidence, the District Attorney continues this false case."
Majors has since been dropped from his management team at Entertainment 360 and the public relations firm, the Lede Company, as well as several projects, including the unannounced Otis Redding biopic.
The investigation is ongoing as sever more alleged abuse victims are reportedly cooperating with the D.A. The actor’s court date is now set for Tuesday, May 9, despite Chaudhry’s efforts to block Asst. D.A. Kelli Galaway's request for a court date later than May 8.
