Samuel L. Jackson Reflects on ‘Pulp Fiction's’ 30th Anniversary: ‘It Changed My Life’
Samuel L. Jackson is reflecting on "Pulp Fiction," one of the most iconic films of his career.
The 75-year-old actor shared photos on X (formally known as Twitter) to celebrate the movie’s 30th anniversary. "’PULP FICTION’ is 30!” Jackson, who portrayed Jules Winnfield, wrote in the post. “This movie launched like a rocket out of Cannes and changed my life. It debuted in theaters on this day in 1994 and I’ll always remember the audience reaction. I knew this film was something special after that…AND 30 YEARS LATER, IT STILL IS."
“Pulp Fiction,” released in 1994, is a crime thriller set in Los Angeles. It tells four interwoven stories about the lives of two hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and two diner bandits. The film also stars John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, and Ving Rhames. Its title refers to the pulp magazines and crime novels of the mid-20th century, known for their gritty content and dialogue.
According to Box Office Mojo, “Pulp Fiction” was a box office hit, earning over $213.9 million worldwide. Of that, $107.9 million came from domestic theaters and $106 million from international markets.
In other news, Jackson recently opened up in AARP The Magazine's October/November 2024 issue about how he and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, worked through challenges in their relationship. During the conversation, Jackson reflected on the commitment it takes to stay together, especially during tough times. "It takes a lot of tolerance," he shared. "Everybody's got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up."
“The Piano Lesson” actor continued, "I’ve done s**t in my marriage that’s crazy, you know? She has too, in her head or whatever in reality, but you got to go, ‘Is that a breakup offense?’ Or is it just that we need to spend a little time together and get some understanding about it?"
He added, “Or, there are certain things that you learn to ignore about people — that she’s learned to ignore about me. And one of the things she had to accept is that I’m going to go to work. I’m going to go to work all the time until, you know, it’s time.”
