See All of Lauryn Hill's Kids in a Family Fashion Spread

Selah Marley talks growing up in the limelight and industry beauty standards.

Lauryn Hill’s eldest daughter Selah Marley is becoming a model in her own right before our eyes. The 18-year-old hit the catwalk at Yeezy Season 4 and 5, modeled in major campaigns such as Miu Miu and Ivy Park and, most recently, worked the NYFW circuit — where she schmoozed with fashion’s elite. This comes as no surprise since star power is in her blood (hello, her mom is one of the dopest female emcees and her dad is Rohan Marley, son of Bob Marley)!

Selah is joined by some of her siblings in an all-new photo shoot for i-D, where she gets candid about growing up in the spotlight and family ties.

On media attention:

"The hardest thing about coming from a well-known family is being in the limelight," she tells i-D.

"Although it sounds like a dream, it can be a little overwhelming to always have people watching you."

On having struggles:

"Not to compare myself in any way, but it is unfair to deem someone immune to the struggle of simply being a human because of the status they've been given from birth," Selah states. "I'm just a young girl trying to navigate through her life as best she can. Thankfully, I've been given several opportunities to advance my career and self."

On beauty expectations:

“There's so much pressure on us to live up to all these aesthetics, lifestyles and personas that are totally unreal and, ultimately, impossible to live up to without mutating yourself in some way," she confesses.

"There's a certain charm in being a human among robots, in being authentic. Our imperfections and differences are what give us our uniqueness."

On her love of modeling:

"My mother exposed me to fashion before I even knew what fashion was," she recalls.

"I would go on runs with her assistants to Alexander McQueen and brands of that caliber. Not to mention our basement, which is basically a couture museum.”
