Justin Timberlake Considers Talent Show for MySpace
Justin Timberlake's role in the recent acquisition of MySpace may have caught some off guard, but the triple–threat pop star plans to prove he means business.
Timberlake's longtime manager Johnny Wright says he and his client are planning to revamp the once mighty social network with new strategies, including a possible talent show.
"Whether it becomes a talent competition or something like that, those are things that we will still flesh out," Wright said. "We definitely want to bring the industry back to Myspace to really look at the talented people that have put their faces there."
Timberlake became part owner and nominal creative director of MySpace via a partnership with the Irvine, California–based ad network Specific Media, which purchased the site from News Corp last week for $35 million. In a statement, he said he was "excited to help revitalize Myspace by using its social media platform to bring artists and fans together in one community.”
MySpace, which lost $165 million over the last fiscal year, is expected to undergo a major overhaul. Already, more than half the company's 450 employees have been laid off.
