Dwyane Wade Praises Mike Tyson For Defending Daughter Against Transphobic Comments
Dwyane Wade on Friday (Nov. 20) praised Mike Tyson for defending his family after rapper Boosie Badazz made transphobic comments about the former NBA star’s daughter, Zaya.
When asked about the incident, Wade said during an interview on Central Ave said he “appreciated” Tyson for supporting 13-year-old Zaya, who came out as transgender earlier this year.
“I actually talked to Mike about that early in the pandemic,” Wade said, according to PEOPLE. “We had a conversation. I appreciated from a standpoint of, you know, Mike is someone who has never tried to be perfect. He is someone who has learned from this journey of life.”
“He’s so smart. He is so educated and knowledgeable about life,” Wade, 38, continued. “For him to be able to drop that nugget on the world, to me, it was great to hear him say that.”
Tyson checked Boosie this summer during an interview on his Hotboxin’ With Mike Tyson podcast for his transphobic comments about Zaya. And he opened up a can of Act Right on Boosie because he was speaking about a child. “That's really why I got offended,” he explained at the time.
