Brandy Reveals Teenage Struggle With Eating Disorder

The singer-actress also opened up about the tragic 2006 car crash.

On this week's episode of VH1's Behind the Music, Brandy revealed that despite all her successes, her teen years were marked by a struggle with an eating disorder. The singer-actress said that hit singles and being the star of her own sitcom, Moesha, still weren't enough to make her feel fulfilled.
"I wanted to be thin. That was my main thing. So I started not taking care of myself not eating properly, not eating at all, diet pills, regurgitating, all of these things that girls do," she revealed to VH1. "People don't understand that being the hottest star or making the most money does not mean anything. I'm here to tell you I was making so much money I was omnipresent and I was the unhappiest teenager probably in the world."
Brandy also opened up about the 2006 car crash that killed 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj. Even though there wasn't enough evidence to convict her for Aboudihaj's death and she settled with her children and husband, it was still the most difficult experience that continues to affect her to this day.
"I just wanted people to know that this wasn't news. It's not something that should be talked about like it's gossip," Brandy said. "You don't like me? Fine. But don't use this situation to try to hurt me, because the guilt of being involved is enough. It's something that I'll never truly, truly get over. Ever."
