Al Roker and 'Today' Show Hosts Surprised By Dermatologist Shower Recommendations
How often should you shower? The exact recommendation from medical professionals might surprise you. It definitely surprised Al Roker and the hosts of the third hour of The Today Show this week.
“The consensus is two to three times per week, but it does depend on the person. I’m looking at Al’s face like, ‘What is this?’” Shop Today editor Adrianna Barrionuevo Brach said, per PEOPLE. “It depends on the person, your lifestyle, your skin time, your age, your activity level, as well.”
Roker and co-hosts Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer balked at the recommendation.
“There’s seven days in a week,” said Dryer who then wondered if the recommendation was for children or adults because, as she put it, “Adults smell.”
Jones eventually acknowledged that she could understand how frequent showering could lead to dry skin.
“You have this natural bacteria that lives all over your skin, it’s part of your microbiome, so you don’t want to compromise that because it does help to sort of protect you,” explained Brach. “When you’re scrubbing and using soap and harsh detergents — I can’t stop looking at Al — it could get a little dicey.”
The segment ended with Roker saying that he showers twice a day, which Jones said was too much.
The hosts also shared more cleaning advice with fans—including that you should completely change your bedding every 18-24 months, wash your dishwasher monthly, and clean your luggage every time you come home from a trip.
