Tupac Shakur Was Set to Audition for Star Wars: Episode I
Besides being one of hip hop’s most iconic rappers, Tupac Shakur could have also been a Jedi. Just before the pop music legend’s death, Tupac was reportedly scheduled to audition for a role in 1999's Star Wars: Episode I – the Phantom Menace.
According to Death Row Records' former chief engineer Rick Clifford, the pop music legend was set to read for the part of Jedi Mace Windu (a part which went to Samuel L. Jackson). Unfortunately, Tupac was shot and killed in Las Vegas on September 13, 1996. "He was telling me that he was supposed to read for George Lucas and them,” explained Clifford. “They wanted him to be a Jedi. Yes, I'm serious — Samuel L. got Tupac's part.”
Before his death, the hip hop superstar had a stellar acting career with roles including Juice (1992), Poetic Justice (1993) and Above the Rim. (1994).
On the report of Tupac’s Star Wars’ audition, Lucas Films has issued no comment.
