During a weekend when seven people were shot and wounded in Chicago, Rev. Al Sharpton visited the city and spoke further about his plans to highlight the work being done to combat the issues plaguing the area. 
"It's to really encourage groups that are already doing work. We're not coming with a new program, we're coming to put a spotlight and to support those that are doing it," Sharpton said on Sunday, according to ABC Chicago. 

Sharpton first announced his plans to rent an apartment in Chicago in July. He revealed Sunday that he will not be moving to the city, but instead will travel there once a week to broadcast his radio and TV shows and highlight, “what is going on, on the ground.”
“Gun violence is not a Chicago problem,” Sharpton said according to the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s a national problem. And because there has been so much in Chicago covered, we need to tell the other story. About the churches. And the group of parents. And those that have been ex-gang leaders. And others that have turned some of this around.”

The son of Martin Luther King Jr., Martin Luther King III, will be Sharpton's roommate and join him in efforts to bring national attention to Chicago's gun violence problem for the next two to three months.
Early Sunday, a 30-year-old man was shot during an argument over a cell phone after a party in the neighborhood called Pullman. A 14-year-old was also among the seven wounded this weekend. He was shot in the arm while standing on the sidewalk Saturday afternoon, according to CBS Chicago.
