Patrick Mahomes Father Arrested On DWI Charge Ahead of Chiefs/49ers Super Bowl Matchup
Just days before the Kansas City Chiefs are set to take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII this Sunday (Feb. 11), Patrick Mahomes’ father was arrested in Tyler, Tex., for driving while intoxicated, a third-degree felony, the Associated Press reports.
On Saturday (Feb 3), Patrick Mahomes Sr, 54, was arrested and his bond was set at $10,000. According to jail records from Smith County, he was released on Sunday (Feb. 4) and this is at least the sixth time that he was arrested for the same charge.
In 2012, Mahomes Sr. was arrested twice for DWI in 2012 and twice more times in 2018, according to US Weekly. He was also arrested on another DWI charge and was sentenced to 40 days in jail which included a weekend work-release program.
As Patrick Mahomes prepares for the Super Bowl, he could face numerous questions about his father’s arrest during media sessions in the coming week. He is looking to become just the fifth quarterback to win three Super Bowls, joining Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, and Troy Aikman.
This is not the first time a member of the Mahomes family has had run-ins with the law. In May, Jackson Mahomes, Patrick’s younger brother was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and a fourth count of battery.
A former Major League Baseball player, Mahomes Sr., played 11 seasons as pitcher from 1992-2003. Over the course of his career, he posted a record 42-39 with a 5.47 ERA in 308 career games where he made 63 starts.
Mahomes Sr. played for several teams including the MinnesotaTwins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
If convicted, Mahomes Sr. could serve up to 10 years in prison.
