YG Says His Shooting Was an Inside Job
One might assume that a certain lifestyle is prescribed to anyone affiliated with gang culture, whether they like it or not. Rapper YG has never downplayed his gang ties, although being a rap star might make him a bigger target.
To put it plainly, violence is unfortunately not new to the Compton rapper. In 2012, gunshots rang out while he was shooting his "I'm a Thug" music video in his old neighborhood. His family and friends (including his mom) were all on set. Cops put the entire block on lockdown and the video was quickly scrapped for the day. No one was injured, although YG would find himself in a similar incident years later.
It was close to 2 o’clock in the morning when he sustained multiple gun shot wounds at a Southern California recording studio last June. With the suspect still on the loose, YG has had some time to formulate a theory on the culprit.
The Fader spoke with YG about the shooting that left him with three bullet wounds. Police say he hasn’t cooperated with the investigation, and despite not knowing who actually did it, the 25-year-old rapper is convinced that it was an inside job. “That was some inside type, somebody-was-really-coming-to-get-me type s**t."
“It was like n****s knew where we was at, and they was coming to do what they was supposed to do," adds YG. "It’s a gang of motherf**kers out here on some ‘F**k YG’ s**t."
Besides the shooting, YG also talks L.A. gang life and channeling his experiences into the forthcoming Still Krazy album.
