Travis Scott’s First Festival Performance After Astroworld Tragedy Canceled
Travis Scott’s first scheduled festival appearance since the 2021 Astroworld tragedy, in which 10 people died, was canceled on Friday (July 1), Variety reports.
“We’re sorry to announce that a combination of logistics, timing and production issues have forced us to cancel Day N Vegas for 2022,” an announcement posted on Instagram stated, without providing specific details about the issues that forced the cancellation.
Scott was slated to headline the final day of the three-day festival scheduled for Labor Day weekend, from Sept. 2-4 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, according to Entertainment Tonight. SZA was supposed to kick off the event on the first night, followed by J. Cole on Saturday.
According to Variety, Scott was originally scheduled to headline the Coachella festival this year, but his appearance was canceled, along with several other festival gigs, in the aftermath of the Astroworld disaster.
An official investigation concluded that the 10 people at the Nov. 5 concert in Houston all died from compression asphyxia during a massive crowd surge, The Associated Press reported. Concertgoers were packed tightly and unable to breathe or move their arms. Meanwhile, the rap superstar faces multiple lawsuits, including a wrongful death lawsuit.
