Texas Middle School Teacher Caught On Video Telling Students White Race Is Superior
A white middle school teacher in central Texas was placed on administrative leave after social media videos surfaced of him telling students that he believes his race is superior to others, KVUE reported on Nov. 11.
In a statement, Pflugerville ISD Superintendent Dr. Douglas Killian said the unidentified teacher at Bohls Middle School had “an inappropriate conversation” with students during an advisory class. Killian added that an investigation is ongoing.
“We apologize for any undue stress or concern this has caused,” the statement said.
The Austin American-Statesman reported that parents and students posted videos of the conversation on social media. It doesn’t show how the topic of race came up in the racially diverse classroom.
A student asks, “So, you are a racist?”
“Yeah, how many times do I gotta say it?” the teacher responds. “Deep down in my heart, I am ethnocentric, which means I think my race is the superior one. I think everybody thinks that, they’re just not honest about it.”
Parent Brian Hennington told KVUE that the interaction on the video should never happen.
“There are other personal experiences we've had as people of color that we had individually, but to see this in the classroom setting is just not acceptable,” Hennington said.
