Lizzo Shares Thoughts of Not Wanting to ‘Live Anymore’ During Concert

The 4-time Grammy winner admitted to being “deeply afraid of people” during a low period.

Lizzo got vulnerable in front of a packed audience at her comeback concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday (March 12).

The “Love In Real Life” vocalist was performing an intimate concert at Wiltern Theatre when she opened up about her struggles with depression. In 2023, Lizzo was embroiled in a sexual harassment lawsuit by three former backup dancers, who also alleged that the musician incited a toxic workplace. Last December, Lizzo was dismissed from a harassment lawsuit filed by her then-wardrobe stylist.

In the clip below, Lizzo expressed that she was in a “dark, deep depression” during that time period. “I was so heartbroken by the world and so deeply hurt that I didn’t want to live anymore, and I was so deeply afraid of people that I didn’t want to be seen. Eventually I got over that fear,” she continued.

But it was around the time that the 4-time Grammy winner went to a concert and was embraced by another attendee, which changed her outlook on life. “Somebody, who I didn’t know, looked at me and said, ‘Lizzo, I love you.’ And they reached out, and I reached back, and we hugged, and it felt so damn good," she continued.

The number of supports grew to “ten thousand” according to Lizzo, all who “showered” her with love, which was “f**king life-saving.”  "And after that experience I was like, Damn, you can’t get this s**t on the internet, bro. This is the kind of love you can only get in real life,” she said. “And I don’t share that story to gain some sort of sympathy. We’re beyond that, b**ch. Look at me!”

Lizzo went on to convey that her message was intended for those suffering from “depression, or darkness, or felt so betrayed by someone they trusted or was lied on and hated on for those lies.” "If you’re depressed, reach out to someone who will listen to you,” she continued.

Lizzo will continue spreading the love during two additional concert stops until March 18 in preparation for her fourth album, “Love In Real Life.”
