Luther Campbell Suing Former Univ. of Miami Booster
Luther Campbell is suing a former University of Miami booster for slander and defamation.
According to ESPN, the former 2 Live Crew frontman filed a lawsuit Tuesday (September 20) in Miami-Dade Circuit Court against Nevin Shapiro, who's behind bars for heading up a Ponzi scheme. Campbell's suit seeks more than $15,000 in damages from Shapiro.
As previously reported, Shapiro has claimed he provided University of Miami athletes and recruits with cars, money and prostitutes over eight years. He said Campbell filled a similar role before he did, as "the first uncle who took care of players."
Campbell's suit charges that Shapiro's comments falsely accused him of partaking in "illegal and immoral behaviors relative to college-age athletes."
Shapiro's attorney couldn't be reached for comment.
