Dreamville Records President Confirms J. Cole’s Album Isn’t Coming After All

Ibrahim “IB” Hamad goes on social media to set the record straight.

UPDATE

Thursday, July, 16, 2020: To the fan's disappointment, it appears J. Cole’s long-awaited album is not going to be available anytime soon as previously reported. Fans have been waiting for any sign of the it’s release and Cole even teased us about the project, titled The Fall Off, back in November 2019, but hasn’t said a word about it since.

  • Earlier this week, Olu, one half of hip-hop duo EarthGang who is also a part of the Dreamville Records roster, breathed new life into rumors that Cole was about to drop the album any day now. However, the label’s president, Ibrahim “IB” Hamad, shut down the speculation via Twitter on Wednesday (July 15). It turns out, Olu was just messing around.

“There is no Cole album coming out soon and there is no Cole interview coming up. Y’all be taking these IG live jokes people make too far lol,” Hamad wrote. “Usually I would have let y’all rock with the rumors but people really been hitting my phone too much about this.”

Welp, it looks like the wait continues for J. Cole fans who are eager to hear new music from the rapper.

  • Previous story: During a recent Instagram live session, Olu, from the hip hop duo EarthGang,  shared with fans all the upcoming music that’s coming out of Dreamville Records in the near future.

“Spillage Village album dropping soon, we got some new EARTHGANG records dropping soon, I hope y'all play that Dreamville for the Revenge of the Dreamers anniversary,” he said on the livestream. He proceeded to reveal that Spillage Village’s forthcoming album is slated to drop in less than two weeks at the end of July.

  • The Grammy-nominated rapper then stirred up some hype for his Dreamville honcho’s long-awaited album.

According to Olu, Cole’s album is coming, but it’s experiencing a slight delay and what’s to blame...2020’s worst culprit, the coronavirus pandemic. Apparently, the album has been held up by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) but its exact location is still unknown.

“Cole album is coming. It’s in the Customs right now,” the rapper claimed. “Cole album gotta get through Customs ‘cause you know, corona.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is responsible for inspecting goods and products that come into the U.S. to ensure they’re not banned or counterfeit, and they’re taking extra precautions with how the virus continues to be spread in the U.S. right now.

  • Cole first teased the album back in November 2019 during his headlining set at the Day N Vegas music festival with a satirical political ad. Thus far, the North Carolina rapper has revealed that the album might possibly be titled The Fall Off, with an anticipated 2020 release date. This will mark the Grammy-nominated rapper’s follow-up to 2018’s KOD.

Little else is known about the project but Olu’s announcement is sure to get fans hyped.
