2024 NAACP Image Awards: India Amarteifio Wins Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for 'Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story'
In a momentous victory at the 55th NAACP Image Awards, India Amarteifio won the award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her remarkable performance in Netflix's "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story," on Saturday, March 16 in Los Angeles.
Amarteifio has charmed viewers with her portrayal of Queen Charlotte in the much-anticipated "Bridgerton" spinoff. Amarteifio was born in Kingston upon Thames and raised in Twickenham. Her father hails from Ghana, while her mother is of British descent. Her craft and passion for storytelling are rooted in her diverse cultural heritage.
"Thank you guys so much. This is an absolute honor. It feels very surreal. Very jet-lagged," she said while accepting the award.
"The women in my category, you have set the absolute standard of what it means to lead a show. Without you, this wouldn't exist."
She continued, "Thank you to my team, thank you to my mom, my family."
"I'm so grateful for this show," she said of the Netflix series. "It has made me feel so grounded in what it means to be a Black person and a Black woman."
"Thank you all for your support. It means the world," Amarteifio said while wrapping up her speech.
